On 31 May 2023, Patriarch Porfirije of Serbia welcomed at the Patriarchal Palace in Belgrade a group of volunteers from the Synodal Department of Church Charity of the Archdiocese of Belgrade-Karlovci, led by Bishop Petar of Toplica, Vicar of the Serbian Patriarch, who manages all the charitable activities of the Archdiocese of Belgrade-Karlovac, together with Dr. Dejan Markovic from the Cardiovascular Diseases Clinic of the Clinical Center of Serbia and Mr. Daniil Tvrdisic from the Ministry of Health.
Patriarch Porfirije is very pleased with the work of the Department for Church Charity in general, and especially with the project presented, which confirms the humanitarian role of the Church in society. In this regard, the Patriarch spoke about similar conditions and the participation of the Church and Christians in helping medical personnel in other Orthodox and Christian countries. Volunteers in medical institutions can bring benefits, primarily for patients but also for medical personnel who are exposed to effort and stress in performing the most humane work.
